five stages of grief

today was my last day of work.

1) DENIAL
"wait, what? my job ends today? no, that's not true. that's
totally not true. bull shit. un true. mom, I gotta go."

2) ANGER
"fuck everyone!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to throw this priority mail box!! fuck this box!!!!!!!!!!
can we maybe try taking the picture in better light?"

3) BARGAINING

4) DEPRESSION

5) ACCEPTANCE

anyway, onto the next thing, whatever that is.

five more mashups

wasn't going to revisit mashups, but then we had a party largely fueled by them. go fig.

god, these are just so...INTERESTING!!!

DJ MonsterMo - UR Hung Up
(Madonna / MIA)
dit dit dit on ya mobile phone!

Cheekyboy - Close to Scrubs
(the Cure / TLC)
"close to me" is half of every third mashup, but this is a standout

Brian Jay - A-ha Off Your Shoulder
(A-ha / Jay-z)
if you only have time to listen to one of these, it's this.

DJ Payroll - One Thing 2 Float On
(Amerie / Modest Mouse)
hey, and also there's here look at this one

Go Home Productions - Papa Was A Clock
(the Temptations / Coldplay)
GHP's mashups are among the best, although I wish he didn't put so much thought into the shitty names he gives them.

okay, this is my last week of work FOR REAL.

cds i am missing

Fess up, people.

Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
My favorite Pavement album, missing for some two years now. darlin, why'd you go and steal my pavement cd? do you think it's gonna make him change?
Possible culprits: Mike Comstock, Danny Mintz, Martha Shane

Radiohead - Kid A
It's doubtful that I would listen to Kid A much if I got it back. Had my fill of it by freshman orientation. But it's a hole in my shelf. The Bends, OK Computer, then Amnesiac? I can't even imagine what guests must think.
Possible culprits: Lynn Levy, Meghan McCarron, Brian Cooperman

Paul Simon - Rhythm of the Saints
This is the one that really gets my goat!! Mostly because I am pretty sure that I lost it on my own. But seriously, if you have this, give it back! This isn't funny guys!! There's nothing funny about a guy asking "who stole my paul simon cd!!!!"
Possible culprits: Myself, or my dad, or maybe it's actually around here somewhere

startling realization

ok, so you know that new play that julia roberts is in? right, who cares. not I.

BUT: reading the times review of it just now, i learned that the the cast is TWO-THIRDS wet hot vets! wow, doesn't that just blow your mind? like, doesn't it just blow up your mind? those fellows who made that movie were really onto something.

thanks google image search, I couldn't have done this shitty blog entry without you!

coop, seriously, fuck off.

five songs from cds i bought last week

(in ascending order of how good the albums are.)

the flaming lips - pompeii am götterdämmerung
man, i wanted to love this album so much! instead i love this.

brendan benson - cold hands (warm heart)
i know, i already posted this as a video. but gah! that song!

built to spill - conventional wisdom
a few weeks ago someone literally said to me, "not being able to choose a favorite built to spill album is basically admitting you have no personality." obviously lana wilson said that.

destroyer - 3000 flowers
you have to give destroyer some time before you love destroyer! but you will.

calexico - panic open string
and it's the dark horse by a nose. well done, calexico, you've won this round

countdown to unemployment

three!

girls and islands

happy thursday, everyone. sit down, let's make this quick.

A)
The Unicorns were a band I never really liked, but pretended to, to almost everyone I know. hopefully this wasn't the basis of any friendships (though if so, please inform me!). fortunately, the unicorns disbanded. even more fortunately, they seem to have re-banded with some extra members (including Jim Guthrie!!!!!) as Islands. I almost want them to be bad, you know? they're not.

islands - rough gem

B)
Everyone always says that girls can't be funny. "Everyone" in this case represents me. Anyway, today everyone came around. Without more ado: variety shac!

it's like stella in some ways, but yet it's also somehow not like stella! maybe because they're girls? I dunno. featuring andrea rosen, woot.
